"56' lwl Vagrant, schooner-yacht of 1910 of composite (steel frame, wood planking) construction. Also, with change in scale, the 79'1" lwl riveted steel schooner Vagrant (II) of 1913, and her near sisters the 80' lwl Mariette of 1916 and Ohonkara of 1919." (Source: Bray, Maynard. 2004.)

"Nothing is known about this schooner design other than a preliminary plan (29-70, HH.5.2164) in the Hart Nautical Collections at M.I.T. titled 'Preliminary Plan of Schooner, 77ft over all, 56ft W.L., 17ft-8in Beam, 10ft-8in Draught' which is dated from July 14, 1916. Preliminary inspection shows a decent match in profiles of this boat and Model 218 which was used for schooners #698s Vagrant, #719s Vagrant, #772s Mariette and #827s Ohonkara."
