Model description:
"50' lwl New York Yacht Club 50-foot class of 1913. Nine were built. Spartan, the sole survivor, rested for several years just across Burnside Street awaiting restoration." (Source: Bray, Maynard. 2004.)

Comment:
"Note that the NY50 model was apparently intended for a 74ft LOA vessel and not for 72ft LOA as eventually built. This is confirmed by overlaying a model photo over the construction plan and then measuring. It is further confirmed by Clinton Crane who in his book 'Yachting Memories' wrote on p. 72 '"In the New York Fifties [NGH] shortened the stern to bring them inside the amount which the new owners were willing to pay, so that they were never as good looking as they might have been.' " (Source: van der Linde, Claas. July 5, 2014.)

Model identification:
"Reference to #729s Scapa was added by CvdL because the offset booklet HH.4.179 clearly indicates that both the NY50s and Scapa were built from model 108." (Source: van der Linde, Claas. August 4, 2010.)
