Model identification:
"It is possible that this model is for a catboat owned by Albert S. Almy (whose sister was was married to Charles F. Herreshoff and who himself was employed at HMCo since about 1878 where he was foreman of the carpenter department until about 1903 when he retired). See NGH design book entry dated October 15, 1888 'Weighing of model of A. Almy's boat Nora, 18ft, to waterline marked on model, scale 1/12, ... Disp[lacement] = ... 3682lbs'. [NGH was working on a new method to determine displacement from models and was using old models with known vessel weights to validate his method, which would explain why he would work on model that he had carved eight years earlier.]" (Source: van der Linde, Claas. September 16, 2014.)
