"Newly identified model. See NGH design book entry just prior to that dated December 14, 1890 'Weighing of preliminary model for Torpedo boat #2 A (156ft x 16ft x 11 extreme depth). Scale of model 1/48th. [Calculations] To waterline marked on back of model 4in 10in above keel at lowest place. Bow hanging 13 1/2in (54ft) back from stem. [Calculated] Disp[lacement] 150.21 Tons net = 134.2 [tons] gross. ...' No other torpedo-boat-like model in the Herreshoff model collection seems to correspond to an overall length of 156ft and this one seems to be an almost perfect length match. The HMCo was unable to receive the building contract for this vessel and it was eventually built by Iowa Iron Works in Dubuque, Iowa as USS Ericsson (Torpedo Boat No. 2/TB-2)."
