Original text on model:
"The two ends of an Oil Barge
Intended to have a straight body between of 94' 6"
Total length 154 ft. Scale 3/8" Oct. 1917 [sic, i.e. Oct. 1918?] Not built. [Note LOA, Beam and Draft are written on the model]." (Source: Original handwritten annotation on model. Undated.)

Model identification:
"Newly identified model. Offset booklet HH.4.205 species "U.S.N. Oil Barges. ... 1918-1919" with a frame spacing of 21in on 88 stations, suggesting an overall length of 154ft, which is the same length as the one noted on this model. Compare models 1500 and 1501. Model 1500 is just the forward and aft ends of an oil tanker, with the long and straight middle section being omitted. Model 1500 is for an oil barge of a stated length of 154ft, while model 1501 at the stated scale of 1/8" to the foot would also be for a vessel of ca. 154ft overall. If one overlays the ends of model 1500 with model 1501 one finds great similarity, including the hard chines. Model 1500 may well have been a preliminary model for 1501 as it bears a strong similarity and is simply a third as long. NGH often made final models at multiple scale factors of a preliminary model.
Compare also with model 1502 which, judging from its shape may also have been for an oil tanker, albeit with soft chines. At a scale of 1/96 it would have been for a vessel of ca. 75ft length. At a scale of 1/192 it would have been for a vessel of ca. 151ft length." (Source: van der Linde, Claas. September 30, 2014.)
