"Original COLUMBIA lifeboat for 499 14' [long] scale 1/12 Nov. 1899 gig for #503 506, 507 [unreadable] (cut dinghy 520 16x14 7 1/2" frames dinghy for 624 scale 10 3.4 over 16 * 10-8 [unreadable] / 529, 532, 533, 534 16x14 add-on bow changed and shear raised remeasured Dec. 4, 1909. Model Description:
"14' lifeboat of 1899 for the cutter Columbia. Also used, with alterations to scale, mold spacing, freeboard, and with sailing rig added, for many other rowboats, sailing dinghies, and tenders. This shape became HMCo's standard for decades to follow." (Source: Bray, Maynard. 2004.)

"14'-6" x 4'-8" Sailing Dingy for #698 Vagrant. Job #5574. May 30, 1910. Hangings 12'-9" apart. Teak fittings. From moulds of Columbia life boat with sheer raised as in ink Dec. 1909. Frame spaces 7 1/2". Keel white oak. Stern 11/16 teak. Stem white oak. Gunwale white oak. Sheer strake white oak. Thwart stringers teak. Thwarts teak 13/16". Timbers white oak. Planking eastern cedar 5/16". Mast 17'-8". Boom 15'-0". Sail on mast 15'-9", on boom 14'-9", leach 19'-0". 37 sq. ft. Weight 276 lbs without oars or sail [as per notes on drawing 28-38]."
