"Original COLUMBIA lifeboat for 499 14' [long] scale 1/12 Nov. 1899 gig for #503 506, 507 [unreadable] (cut dinghy 520 16x14 7 1/2" frames dinghy for 624 scale 10 3.4 over 16 * 10-8 [unreadable] / 529, 532, 533, 534 16x14 add-on bow changed and shear raised remeasured Dec. 4, 1909. Model Description:
"14' lifeboat of 1899 for the cutter Columbia. Also used, with alterations to scale, mold spacing, freeboard, and with sailing rig added, for many other rowboats, sailing dinghies, and tenders. This shape became HMCo's standard for decades to follow." (Source: Bray, Maynard. 2004.)

"15'-7" x 4'-9" x 2'-1" Life Boat. Capacity 9 persons. From molds of 'Columbia' life boat, see [drawing] 76-110 [renamed to 28-42 which itself refers to drawing 76-14 renamed to 28-18]. Frame spaces 8". Keel white oak 1 3/8" deep, width as on [drawing] 76-110 [renamed to 28-42]. Gunwale 1 3/8" x 7[or 9?]/16". Sheer strake 3 1/4" x 1" x 7/8" teak. Timbers 9[?]/16" molded x 11/16" sided. Planking White Cedar 5/16". Flooring cedar, sides 11[?]/16", bottom 3[?]/8". Sternboard teak 5 3/8" thick. Thwart stringers 1" x 3/8". Thwarts 13/16" teak. Elm grating with teak border. 1 [boat] job 9381 for 308 [SP-2232 Herreshoff #308] with centerboard + mast [as per notes on drawing 28-51].
Note: It is unclear if 2 or 4 boats were built from plan 28-51 for #306p. Photos of the 112'-7" Patrol Boats appear to show only 2 dinghies on deck and accordingly it is assumed that only 2 dinghies were built for #306p, comprising a third of the group of 6 boats built from plan 28-51 under job number 9381 for #306p, #308p, and #321p." "This vessel's contract date was estimated from the approximate date of its job number. The vessel's job number 9381 was assigned ca. 1917-07-27. Plan 28-51 (formerly 76-126) from which this boat was built was drawn 1916-12-13. #308p SP-2232 [Herreshoff #308] (for which this vessel was built) was contracted for 1917-02-17.
