In its earlier years, Zara sailed around Cape Horn. Sherman Jones owned her in the mid-70's in Galveston, TX. At that time she was in poor condition. He got her in North Carolina, and indicated that the US Government cut most of her keel off in the 1940's. She had a triangular mast at that time. Mr. Jones donated her to Texas A&M University.
