Model identification:
"Newly identified model. Model 1209 shows a perfect match with sailplan MR47770 of an open boat with a sliding gunter mainsail. In turn, the dimensions of the boat on the sailplan, when scaled to match the sail area data on the plan, are in good agreement with data on WRDT08_06800 in the Halsey Herreshoff Collection in the Model Room of the Herreshoff Marine Museum for a 16ft 'Design in 1875, sliding gunter sail' boat' which suggests that Model 1209 was made in 1875 by NGH. But compare also models 1208 and 1209. Model 1208 shows a perfectly circular underwater profile with a rudder attached to it. Model 1209 shows a perfectly circular deck outline with a forward bow part attached to it. A half circle is even inscribed in pencil on the model's deck. These two models might also be speculated to be part of an experiment conducted by NGH to compare stability by width or depth." (Source: van der Linde, Claas. October 13, 2021.)
