"This centerboard catboat (Nora) raced in the first regatta run by the Beverly Yacht Club off Beverly on June 22, 1872, where 11 boats, 10 catboats, and a sloop started in three classes based on boat length: 21 to 30 feet on the waterline, 17 to 21 feet on the waterline, and 17 feet and under on the waterline. The Nora was owned by original Beverly Yacht Club member Franklin Dexter. It was 16 feet 4 inches in length, with a beam of 7 feet 4 inches, and was built by J. B. • Note: The L. Francis Herreshoff index cards comprise a set of some 1200 cards about vessels built by HMCo, with dimensions and / or ownership information. Herreshoff as well as his long-time secretary Muriel Vaughn and others. Also 46 cards of L. F. Herreshoff-designed vessels. The original set of index cards is held by the Herreshoff Marine Museum and permission to display is gratefully acknowledged.
