"I modeled and superintended building a twenty-one foot catboat for my brother Charles in 1881 [sic, i.e. 1880 (#188004es Alice) or 1882 (188201es Alice)?], named ALICE, and I sailed her for him in several of her races. "Model 1402 is for ALICE launched Oct 12 1880. Model 511 is for ALICE launched October 12 1882. Alice 1880 (#188004es) is well documented and reported to have raced in 1881. Alice 1882 (#188201es), however, is not documented whatsoever beyond what is written on the back of Model 511. Identical names and identical launch dates (other than the year) sound unlikely and it may thus very well be that the note 'launched Oct 12 1882' on Model 511 is in error and should read 'launched Oct 12, 1880'. For the time being, references to #188201es Alice have been retained in the HCR, but further research should be conducted to determine if the two Alices are not one and the same boat."
