"No model. Model is missing or not identified. #49p Sinbad, #50p Spray, #54p Dolphin, and #56p Lucy share the same length and were built from the same plan (Plan 003-002 for 42' Steam Launch, drawn on February 2, 1878). In all likelihood they were thus built from the same model. Note that offsets of this model have survived at M.I.T., which suggests that a model was made and may have survived, too." "Note: The construction drawing 003-002 for #49p, #50p, #54p, and #56p is extremely difficult to read as most of it is in thin, often smeared pencil. Nonetheless, notes in the lower margin appear to read as '... 42f long. 8 1/2f beam. 3f [unreadable number] deep. [nl] Built on no 3 [unreadable number and or word]. 3 1/2[?] deeper and[?] 1 1/2[?] [unreadable 3 or 4 letters]. [nl] 1 1/2 [inch?] longer at steam with 5 more overhang. [nl] Propeller[?] same as no 43 [#43p] Kelpie, alsto stern bearing, sleeve[?] unreadable word]. 3 bladed wheel, 33 1/2in diam[eter], 60in pitch [dimensions crossed out and replaced with] 32in diam., 40in pitch. [Also further note:] St[eame]r no. 49 [#49p] (1/2in to the foot). St[eame]r 50 [#50p] without top & sail. [Also further note in ink:] Steamers #49 --- #50 --- #54 --- #56. [Also:] Feb[ruar]y 5th, 1878.' These notes appear to suggest that these four boats were not built from a new model, but from an existing, to be identified, model of a boat with an HMCo construction number between #30p and #39p."
