Model discussion:
"23 Wall Street.
New York
September 10, 1931.
Dear Mr. Nat:
A great many thanks to you for your letter of September 8th, and for the original model of the twelve foot dinghy, which arrived this morning. The boat has been a great success and I don't need to tell you what a great pleasure it is to me to have the original model of it.
I hope that you have had a good summer and shall look forward to seeing you if you stop in New York on your way to Florida later in the fall.
Please give my best regards to Mrs. Herreshoff, and with renewed thanks for the model,
Very sincerely yours,
[Junius S. Morgan]" (Source: Morgan, Junius S. [Letter to N. G. Herreshoff.] Herreshoff Marine Museum Correspondence, Folder 50 (new), 181 (old). September 10, 1931."
Comment:
"This dinghy was modeled by N.G. Herreshoff and built by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company. The original half model, now in possession of [John P. Morgan II], has pencilled on its back '12 ft sailing dinghie for Shuttle. NHG. Coconut Grove 1928.' Shuttle was a 70' twin-screw commuter launched in 1928 by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company for the donor's father, Junius S. Morgan." (Source: Bray, Maynard with Benjamin A. G. Fuller and Peter T. Vermilya. Mystic Seaport Watercraft. Mystic, Connecticut, 2001, p. 27.)

Model identification:
"References to #193101es [Dinghy for Ariel II], #1221s [Tender for Yawlcat] and #1220s Kid-Pleurisy were added by CvdL because, as per the Maynard Bray Dinghy Database, the construction plans indicate these dinghies to have been built on the molds of #192802es, the dinghy for Shuttle, which in turn was built from model Ext02."
