"... W. K. Vanderbilt's big steam yacht Wayfarer, formerly the Warrior, was at Bristol, R I. last Tuesday [April 6, 1915]. The yacht, which is in commission, was sent to the Herreshoffs' to receive a launch recently completed. ... [Note: The identity of this launch is unclear. Two launches for Wayfarer, #297p and #298p had already been delivered in January 1915. "... A new 27-foot power launch built by Herreshoff's for Alfred G. Vanderbilt's steam yacht Wayfarer was given a trial in Bristol Harbor last week by Sidney Herreshoff. The craft, which is planked with mahogny, developed 20 miles an hour in several trials over the mile course. ... [Note: Again, the identity of this launch is unclear. "Alexander Smith Cochran, owner of the sloop Vanitie, has purchased from the Alfred G. Vanderbilt estate the steam yacht Wayfarer. The Wayfarer was originally known as the Warrior, and Mr Cochran has restored the name to the yacht. The Warrior was built in Scotland in 1904 for Frederick W. Vanderbilt. In January 1914, the Warrior ran on an uncharted reef off the coast of Colombia, but when brought to New York by the underwriters was found to be little injured. During the Summer of 1914 the Warrior was under charter to Harry Payne Whitney, being purchased by the late Alfred G. Vanderbilt late in that season." (Source: Anon. "Notes of the Week's Log." ... Another craft disposed of at Herreshoff's last week was the 40-foot [sic, i.e. 31' 10"] mahogany launch Wayfarer. This boat was formerly one of the tenders to the late Alfred G. Vanderbilt's steam yacht Wayfarer. This craft, which is fitted with a cabin and a 60-horsepower engine, was bought by J. J. Campbell of Warwick, R. I. [This launch was apparently left at the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company in partial exchange for #297 Crew Launch for St. Y. Wayfarer and #298 Owner Launch for St. Y. Wayfarer. But note the above comments about St. Y. Wayfarer's second visit in Bristil in April 1915, following her visit in January 1915 when she had already been reported to have picked up #297p and #298p.]" (Source: Anon. "Yachts and Yachtsmen." Supplement
From the 1920 and earlier HMCo Index Cards at the MIT Museum
- Note: The vessel index cards comprise two sets of a total of some 3200 cards about vessels built by HMCo, with dimensions and information regarding drawings, later or former vessel names, and owners. They were compiled from HMCo's early days until 1920 and added to in later decades, apparently by Hart Nautical curator William A. Baker and his successors. While HMCo seems to have used only one set of index cards, all sorted by name and, where no name was available, by number, later users at MIT apparently divided them into two sets of cards, one sorted by vessel name, the other by vessel number and greatly expanded the number of cards. Original HMCo cards are usually lined and almost always punched with a hole at bottom center while later cards usually have no hole, are unlined, and often carry substantially less information. All cards are held by the Francis Russell Hart Nautical Collections of the MIT Museum in Cambridge, Mass.

From the 1930s L. Francis Herreshoff Index Cards at the Herreshoff Marine Museum
- Note: The L. Francis Herreshoff index cards comprise a set of some 1200 cards about vessels built by HMCo, with dimensions and / or ownership information. Apparently compiled in the early 1930s, for later HMCo-built boats like the Fishers Island 23s or the Northeast Harbor 30s are not included. Added to in later decades, apparently by L. F. Herreshoff as well as his long-time secretary Muriel Vaughn and others. Also 46 cards of L. F. Herreshoff-designed vessels. The original set of index cards is held by the Herreshoff Marine Museum and permission to display is gratefully acknowledged.

Warrior was one of Watson's largest and handsomest steam yachts. Some people claim she was Watson's best design. Of her owners, nearly all can be said to be among the most experienced on both sides of the Atlantic. In January, 1914, she was nearly lost after grounding on the Colombian coast. Her passengers had to be rescued, but after the storm subsided she was floated without much damage. She was sunk by bombing on July 11, 1940." (Source: Hofman, Erik. The Steam Yachts.
